***THERE’S A NEW SCHEDULE THIS MONTH!***
Welcome back to The Great Substack Prompt Celebration! Heather Huffman, Nicole Rivera and the Fictionistas crew are back for writing inspiration through a writing prompt, community connection through a live Zoom call and thread, and an opportunity to get your fiction Substack pages read by even more readers!
Each month we
share a writing prompt,
have a live Zoom call where we write together (we call this our Writing Prompt Party!), and then
we wrap up the month by asking all participants to share their stories for everyone to read.
This month we will be following the same model as last month where we will be encouraging everyone to read and share the stories shared at the end of the month.
Let’s Talk About Unplugging
I spent the better part of the last two weeks in a massive unplug. Inspired by an assignment in Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way, on April 21st, I deleted social media apps from my phone and committed to a solid week of Reading Deprivation. It was a massive unplug. I wrote about my personal resistance to this task and the ultimate results and assessment of the undertaking on Stop Writing Alone yesterday, but the short version of the story is I am overjoyed I did it, and disappointed I didn’t do it sooner. Which is the reason for this month’s talk topic:
When was the last time you “unplugged” and what is your “unplugging” process?
If you feel like you don’t require an unplug because you are happy with your current balance, let us know what’s working for you!
Mark Your Calendar & Grab Your Link
You officially have a little LESS THAN one week to warm up before this month’s fun begins. Remember, Fictionistas who join the Writing Prompt Party will be the first to get this month’s prompt and the first to get some real-time reactions to their first drafts!

Bummer. Darn day job keeps me from participating next week, but will be looking forward to the prompt!
I've learned I need to treat writing and creative work the way I would any job. I show up at regularly scheduled times and I start typing.
The key to making this work, for me, is to release any expectations about the outcome of the writing session. If the words are sh*t today, they can always be revised or rewritten later.
The goal is to teach my brain two things:
1.This isn't optional.
2. There is no magical muse I have to wait for. I am the muse.
The great thing about being your own muse is you have the power to show up for yourself at the same time every day.
