Hi Fictionistas! I’ve launched a survey which I’m hoping will prove interesting to anyone who writes and publishes fiction online. The intention is to find out more about our techniques and approaches, thereby setting a benchmark for the scene as it stands in 2022.
Once the survey has been running for a while, I’ll collate and analyse the responses and write it up in a handy report anyone can read. Here’s some of the things I’m hoping to find out:
Which genres are dominant in the online fiction space?
Have writers published in other forms?
How many of us are writing full-time, or part-time?
What strategies are people using to promote their work?
Where are people publishing their fiction?
What forms of monetisation are being used?
How important is community?
It could be that there are certain trends emerging, or perhaps we’re all experimenting in wildly different directions. I’m hoping the results will shine a light on best practice and help each of us improve our methods.
The survey should only take about five minutes to complete. You can find out more about it (and me) over on my Substack:
This will work best if lots of people get involved, so please do share the link with your writing network and fellow creatives across Twitter, Facebook, newsletters and so on.
Thanks! Stay tuned for the report later this year.
I took the survey but could not find a defined distinction between publishing a regular newsletter and publishing a full-fledged novel that can take more than a year to bring to the public. From my POV, the two things are very different. But I do look forward to the collation of the survey results.
I took the survey. Looking forward to the results!
