We had our November Writing Prompt Party earlier this evening and it was a blast. It’s now time to reveal the prompt to the rest of the Fictionistas community!
First, Let’s Talk About Your Substack Presence
In tonight’s prompt party we, of course, shared our respective Substack pages, but we also got to chatting a little bit about all the different ways we show up on substack, so we ask you now:
Do you have multiple Substack pages? What brought you to the Substack platform as a writer?
Share in the comments the long and short of your presence here and the journey that brought you to this place.
Now, On To Our Month-Long Fictionistas Prompt Celebration!
If you missed the post with all the information and instructions you can read via the link below. Don’t worry you can still participate. Grab your laptop or pen and paper and join the fun!
The doc below describes the original model of this celebration, remember this month WE won’t be deciding which substacks will be getting a spotlight shone on them, YOU will! Next week we will come back with a more detailed explanation, but, in short, when the thread post comes out next week, we will be asking participants to read, react, and RESTACK each other’s stories with a special focus on sentences, or passages, they quote in their Notes.
And Finally… The Prompt
Since our Writing Prompt Party landed on Friday the 13th this month, Nicole took to some date-focused resources to get inspiration to celebrate the date. With two “Word A day” books and the year long book, The Writer’s Devotional by Amy Peters, the following prompt was presented.
Your prompt:
Write a story including a ruffian and an elephant with a focus on the sentence starter “If I were suddenly rich…”
Here are phtos of the pages that inspired this prompt:
From the Merriam-Webster’s Word A Day book
From Publications International Ltd. Word A Day book
What now?
Now that the party is over, it’s time to polish your piece to get it ready for next week’s discussion thread. Get your polished story (no longer than 1000 words) on your Substack page, or on a a view-only Google doc, and put the link in the comments of the thread post we will share next Thursday.
Once you share your stories, the community will start reading, reacting, and restacking your fiction!
Let’s write together this month, Fictionistas!
Share the Fiction Love!
Do you know a writer who is looking for this kind of inspiration and community support? Don’t forget to share this post so we can read their stories too!

Hmm, seems I'm the first. I have just the one: https://keithoxenrider.substack.com/ where I'm serializing my Diary of a Contract Killer universe. I have ME/CFS, which makes writing (well, pretty much anything) a massive struggle. Since I felt sure I'd never have enough to do any more querying - or to finish the self publishing process - rather than simply leaving all that writing on my hard drive (and Google cloud), I figured I'd put it here and see if I could develop a fan base. Not much so far, but such is life.
Hey, excited to write for this prompt! Does the starter have to include the sentence 'If I were suddenly rich...' or can it be an unspoken allusion?
