Welcome back to The Great Substack Prompt Celebration! Heather Huffman, Nicole Rivera and the Fictionistas crew are back for writing inspiration through a writing prompt, community connection through a live Zoom call and thread, and an opportunity to get your fiction Substack pages read by even more readers!
Each month we share writing prompts, have a live Zoom call where we write together (we call this our Writing Prompt Party!), and then wrap up the month by asking all participants to share their stories for everyone to read. This month we will be following the same model as last month where we will be encouraging everyone to read and share the stories shared at the end of the month.
Let’s Talk Your Writing Kryptonite
Everyone loves to talk about writer’s block, but I am wondering if you have a special kind of kryptonite that may create a block that wasn’t there in the first place!
Is there a topic or genre that, if presented in a writing prompt, may stop you cold?
One of the great powers of writing prompts is their ability to stretch you out of your creative comfort zones, but is there a thing that can be present that may have the opposite effect?

Some prompts work better for me than others, but I have always been able to use them to create a story, even when they're asking for something in an unfamiliar genre or words (I'm thinking of NYC Midnight contests!). I mean, I had to write a story with a submarine once and while that was incredibly challenging for me, I ended up with one of my favorite stories ever!
What I most love in a prompt is something that allows me to go deep into a character or setting, especially if I can hijack something from one of my existing worlds.
