The Prompt

This month we used one of Nicole’s favorite writing prompt tools, The Storymatic cards created by Brian Mooney. Check out Storymatic Studios (https://thestorymatic.com)

to see how you can get your own set of cards!

The rules are simple:

  • Pick two gold cards to create a character

  • Pick two copper cards to lead you into story

Here are the cards we selected

Gold Character Cards

The first two cards selected were as follows

Person who steals cats AND slacker

This means you are to write about a slacker who steals cats!

Copper Story Cards

The next two cards selected were

Something beautiful yet useless AND something is wrong with the water

This means your story should include something beautiful but so useless and there should be something wrong with the water at some point in your story.

Next Steps

Now it’s time to write, or polish the piece you began in the Writing Prompt Party earlier tonight. Then, when the discussion thread is posted next Thursday post it on your Substack page and put the link in the comments; If the story doesn’t go with what you typically post you can leave a link to a view only Google doc and post it in the comments. Stories should be 1,000 words or less.

Once you share your stories, the community will start reading, and we’ll be looking for the stories that impress us most!

Let’s write together this month, Fictionistas!
