With another Prompt Party in the books, it’s time to update those of you who couldn’t make it. Get your pens and pencils ready, here comes your Writing Prompt!
First, Let’s Talk About Your Writing Community
The monthly Writing Prompt Party is one aspect of the Fictionistas Substack, a page and a community created to support fiction writers on Substack. The fact that you have subscribed demonstrate an interest in finding writing community, which bring us to the question of the week:
How do you build your writing community support system?
Is Fictionistas your one and only writing community connection, or are you a community addict? Do you have local, face-to-face community connections or are you only supported digitally? Do you have a writing community recommendation for us? Is there some kind of support you’ve been looking for, but still haven’t found? Let us know in the comments!
Now, On To Our Month-Long Fictionistas Prompt Celebration!
If you missed the post with all the information and instructions you can read via the link below. Don’t worry you can still participate. Grab your laptop or pen and paper and join the fun!
The doc below describes the original model of this celebration, remember this month WE won’t be deciding which substacks will be getting a spotlight shone on them, YOU will! Next week we will come back with a more detailed explanation, but, in short, when the thread post comes out next week, we will be asking participants to read, react, and RESTACK each other’s stories with a special focus on sentences, or passages, they quote in their Notes.
And Finally… The Prompt
This month Nicole tried to share a prompt from a writing prompt app that, of course, decided to go belly up in the middle of our live call. To save the day,
requested a prompt from a book she knew Nicole had on her shelf, Create a Story from Chartwell Books. We asked to pick a random page. Thanks to the group effort, we have a rpompt for you. Enjoy!Your prompt:
Write a story about:
A dectective disguises himself as a celebrity to enter an elite club of criminals.
Use these words in your story:
clue, fame, fortune, intrigue, elite, class, bouncer, gatekeeper, imposter, poser, newcomer, initiation, key, insider, trust
What now?
Now that the party is over, it’s time to polish your piece to get it ready for next week’s discussion thread. Get your polished story (no longer than 1000 words) on your Substack page, or on a a view-only Google doc, and put the link in the comments of the thread post we will share next Thursday.
Once you share your stories, the community will start reading, reacting, and restacking your fiction!
Let’s write together this month, Fictionistas!
Share the Fiction Love!

This is one of the wildest prompts I've ever had in my life.
Loving this prompt and writing furiously. One of the mandatory words should be elite, not slite (as seen from the image of the page) 🙂
