Sorry - I missed that this was only to be based on the prompt?

correct. Everything they’re doing is based on a single prompt for the month. There’s a live writing prompt party, and then they share that prompt afterwards, and we all write the story based on that prompt.

We are all writing stories based on this month’s prompt that we shared last week. If you missed that post, it is here:

Definitely DON’T give up! We release the prompt in the second week of the month, so tune in next month, or join us for our live Writing Prompt party on the same day (second Thursday of the month) where everyone in attendance gets started on their story with the group!

It’s a decision everyone has to make for themselves, that’s for sure. Everything happening here on Fictionistas is free as far as I know. This event doesn’t have any kind of paywall, so you don’t have to worry about that if you want to join us in this writing fun!

As for monetizing the fiction, it’s a challenge for all of us. Right now my fiction Substack is completely free and a huge experiment I just have fun with.

Hi Robin! I'm sorry you're having difficulties - I would encourage you to continue this discussion elsewhere as this thread is really intended for people's stories. You could post it over in our Office Hours, https://fictionistas.substack.com/p/fictionistas-january-office-hours/comments

But one point - I wouldn't give up on writing your Substack. It just takes time. I hit 1000 subscribers on my first one which is almost 2 years old, and which I have been promoting a lot.

The point of the writing prompt activity here is two-fold: one, to get writing practice in community and two, to bring new readers to your stories.

I would encourage you to stop focusing on how your Substack is performing right now and instead, write a story and share it here! 😊

Well, phew! That was a steep learning curve for me. Here's the link to my story. I created a new section on my Substack called "on the page" as a special home for my fiction. :-)

I also recorded my voice on Audacity, exported, and then uploaded the mp3 files directly onto the page so you can listen to the story. It took much longer than I thought it would.
