Welcome to 2022! Let this be the year in which all Fictionistas take our writing to the next level, writing great stories, increasing subscriptions and growing our audiences, and (maybe) going paid or increasing paid members.
Here’s a look at what we have coming up this month as well as how you can get more involved with the Fictionistas project.
Zoom call
To get everything started, we’re going to kick off the new year with a Zoom call for all Fictionistas. We’ll introduce ourselves and what we’re writing and then discuss how we’re using Substack for our fiction, ideas for audience building, best practices, etc.
The Zoom call will be on January 21 at noon EST, 9am PST. It’s early to hopefully accommodate a multitude of time zones. (If you can’t make this one, we’ll do another soon!)
Note: we are sending the Zoom login info to subscribers; for security purposes, this info will be removed from the web archive. If you need the call-in details or if you subscribed after we sent this out, feel free to email us at fictionistas@substack.com with your Substack title and we’ll send you the login details.
List your Substack
We have a pinned post in which we hope to feature every fiction Substack all in one place. In the future, we may try other ways to promote everyone’s work such as organizing them by genre, format (short stories vs novels vs other formats like comics). If your Substack isn’t listed, email us to get added!
Write for us!
Do you have a fiction-writing best practice? Have you found a way to successfully build your audience? Maybe you’ve discovered an effective way to organize your stories or chapters on the Substack platform? Or maybe you know about cool writing or editing tools?
We’d love to hear from you!
We know you’re probably crazy busy writing your own Substack and working on a million other things, but if you can spare a little time, you’re invited to contribute to Fictionistas as a guest writer. We’d love to publish your own original — or gently repurposed from your own newsletter — content that could help other writers.
And while we’re all volunteers here, if you write for us we’re more than happy to give you a little space to pitch your own writing projects both here and elsewhere.
Making Substack – and Fictionistas – even better
If you have any ideas or suggestions on how Substack could be better for fiction writers, or ideas on building the Fictionistas community, be sure to visit our ideas thread and share your thoughts. This will be an ongoing place to drop your brainstorms or suggestions, and we’ll do our best to pass along any platform suggestions to the Substack staff.
Share Fictionistas with your fellow writers
As any pigeon can tell you, there is power in numbers.
If you know anyone who is publishing short or long fiction on Substack, we encourage you to share this Substack with them and encourage them to subscribe.
