Welcome to your monthly recap of all things Fictionistas. This is a trial of sorts to see if this type of roundup of recent activity in our community is useful to our members.
Here’s what went down this month, ICYMI.
We’re back, Baby!
Your hosts dropped a relaunch post on September 1st to get everyone reacclimated after summer hiatus.
The post highlighted our regular publication features including The Great Substack Prompt Celebration, which fostered a wonderful selection of brand new fiction from those who participated. You can find links to all the fabulous flash from your fellow Fictionistas in the thread posted last week.
The deadline for sharing in this month’s celebration is September 29th, but never fear. Another prompt is on the way. Watch for next week’s invite to join the live Zoom gathering or wait for the prompt post that follows to gather inspiration for your next piece of flash fiction.
Chat is Live
It has been wonderful to see folks engaging in the Chat. It’s a great place to introduce yourself, drop a general query about fiction writing on Substack, or share a writerly celebration. Your admins are doing their best to keep up with the feed, but given the speed of exchanges, we may miss things occasionally. If your question is pressing, or about a specific feature on the site, a DM or email is probably a safer bet.

For guest post inquiries: DM
For prompt party inquiries: DM
A gentle reminder to refrain from sharing spammy promotions or content that doesn’t pertain to fiction writing in the Chat. If you’re looking for a free space to post your thoughts on other subjects or try to drum up interest in your latest project, Substack Notes is a great place for that.
One the BEST WAYS to promote your work on Fictionistas is by writing a guest post for us!!!
A guest post showcases your writing while letting the community know you exist. Your post will feature a snapshot of your Substack bio at the end, allowing readers to visit your publication and explore more of your work. Here’s how
shared some of her writing with over 3000 readers this week:Our hope is to offer our readership two posts from community members each month. That means we need you to step up!
If you’re interested in sharing something relevant and/or enlightening with our audience, you can submit your work via this handy form.
Last but not least …

Meetups are a great opportunity to meet other members of the fiction writing community, share celebrations and frustrations, and ask any burning questions you have about the internet island we know as Substack. The guest list always includes a handful of seasoned vets along with plenty of new faces. Don’t be shy! But, if you are shy, it’s okay. You’re welcome to just “tune in” and listen. We’ll do our best to keep it informative and entertaining.
Hope to see some of you there!
