Great recap, Brian! I still have marks on my head from the lampshade, but it was worth it.

Thanks, Geoffrey! You were the life of the party!

I won’t use this as a forum to gush about Fictionistas. I’ll save that for the dual love letter I’m currently composing to this group and to Substack. Expect delivery around Valentine’s Day. I will say that I am so glad I decided to show up for this, (fashionably late as I was). For introverts (who aren’t introverts at all once you get to know them--fair warning), clicking on a link to a Zoom space full of people you’ve never met feels about as intimidating as opening the door to a house party in a neighborhood that’s not yours. I could have easily distracted myself with mundane tasks and avoided joining the festivities. But I took the leap and crashed the party. And it was a good time.

Thanks for letting me listen in – and contribute – to the discussion. And thanks to all who came by my Substack to check things out. And thanks to those of you who are still there. And special thanks to two of you for your recent recommends. If I’d had a bottle of champagne lying around last night, I would have downed the whole thing in celebration. That was super generous of you.

Did I say I wasn’t going to gush?

I lied.

Brian! The mention links work perfectly on my laptop, but I couldn’t open 90% of them in the app for some reason. Not sure if anyone else had an issue there. It could just be the ineptitude of my finger pads. Great recap. Great group. And now the word GREAT looks weird to me.

What's funny, Meg, is I'm the same way. I'm an introvert and don't say too much on the Zoom calls. Basically, I contribute what I know when possible, but my writing is my preferred method of communication. Everyone is really chill in the group, and that is super helpful, too.

Odd about the mention links in the app. I went and checked and had the same issue. It feels like some sort of a bug.

Buggy.

If I have a general substack question for the group, where should I stick it? Is the December Office Hours post still being monitored?

I would say go ahead and send it to the office hours post. Jackie will get notified since she is the author and if she doesn't know, I'm sure she'll reach out to one of us.

Thanks! I haven't joined in on the Substack office hours yet. I'll give that a go.

Thanks for the recap, Brian. I enjoyed it. Still looking to get on the zoom next time. Had it on my calendar this time, but turned out couldn't make it.

Kind of like Meg (and you) say, I can be a bit on an introvert when it comes to people I haven't met before. But I think I can manage for the next one. Meanwhile, all the best, happy holidays, and the new year too.

Thanks, Victor! Hope to see more of you in the future, even if it's just lurking in the comments and not on the zoom 😁

Thanks to everyone for an engaging and informative session on ZOOM. It was encouraging to hear that some of the issues I have been dealing with are also experienced by others, for example the problem with gmail messages being sent to the "Promotions" folder. I also appreciate the idea that email is still one of the best ways communicate, even in this era of phone-based text messages. Best wishes to all!

Thank you for the recap Brian! Sorry for just lurking off-camera the whole time at the Zoom party --- total newbie to Substack, but learned a lot from everyone's battle-tested tips!

Spooky --- the Zoom recording never recorded me, not even a screenshot of white-font-floating-on-black-square kind of recording. Spooky Zoom = confirmed!

Would you mind adding me to the "participants" section? Going to subscribe to everyone on that list and check out the fiction side of Substack! <3

Thanks, Helen! Sometimes, depending on how you're viewing the screen you will be on, but it won't show all windows depending on your view configuration. I'll be sure to add you.

Interesting discussion! I was planning on listening here and there a few minutes, but ended up listening the whole thing :)
